Family Involvement
At Tohaali Community School, we recognize that families play a vital role in a student’s academic success. Family involvement is as significant as the contributions of the school’s educators, school board members, administrators, support staff, and community members. Our school community fosters partnerships that promote two-way communication, collaboration, and lasting connections with families to support student success.
Parent/Guardian Involvement Policy
Tohaali Community School strives to educate Navajo District students with the assistance of parents and guardians. Research shows that family involvement is a critical factor in student achievement. We believe all families want the best for their students, so we try to connect, communicate, and work with parents and guardians to enhance the learning process and support academic growth.
We build ties with families through partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, family engagement activities, and school board meetings. Our educators and administrators research, adopt and implement model approaches to increase parent/guardian involvement, recognizing families' important role in the learning process as teachers, supporters, advocates and decision-makers.
Parent Advisory Committee
Tohaali Community School has a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) composed of parents/guardians and school personnel. The PAC convenes to develop a plan for family involvement in our educational programs. We inform parents/guardians of the policy and the plan through written correspondence and hold monthly PAC meetings on the first Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.
Parent/Guardian-Tohaali Community School Compact
The Parent/Guardian-Tohaali Community School Compact outlines the shared responsibility between parents/guardians, school staff, and students in achieving academic success. The school's responsibility is to provide high-quality instruction and a supportive learning environment, enabling students to meet the academic standards set by the Navajo Nation, the Bureau of Indian Education and the State of New Mexico.
Families are responsible for staying involved in their student's education by monitoring attendance, homework completion, and use of extracurricular time. Parents and guardians also participate in educational decisions when appropriate.
